Sync 3.4.21265 query

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Yesterday I was going through sync on my 2021 Fiesta and noticed I was on Sync 3.4.21194 maps F10.

On checking Syanlabs I saw the latest update was for Sync 3.4.21265 applicable only for Europe area. I downloaded this (very small) and installed it on my car today. I downloaded the xml file to https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resources-and-support/sync-bluetooth/update no problem and it was accepted.

My query is why has https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resources-and-support/sync-bluetooth/update not notified me that this update was available as I check every week and it has never come up? Have any of you not received this update from Ford? I had a lot of trouble with sync update when I purchased the car and after much correspondence with Ford UK I supposedly got the problem sorted and a free first servicing as well. I am now wondering if the problem was really sorted. Syanlabs from now on.

Thanks for any replies.

I think you will find that many versions of the Sync firmware are released over the months and years, some may be region specific so "Ford USA" or "Ford Europe" rather than "Ford UK" etc.

You'll also find that some revisions may only see the light of day on new factory units, but are never pushed over the air or web portals.

There are also those revisions that will be released in one region first to gain feedback before a much wider release.

So your experience is not unusual in the world of Sync3 or the wider software world.

If you're concerned with warranty and support from Ford UK and its dealer network it may be worth sticking with official releases. This doesn't mean to say that Cyanlabs releases are bad or wrong, but when it comes to warranty any "non-approved" could be used as a get-out clause.

Firmware updates by the official channels are maybe two to three times a year and then map updates once a year. If it doesn't happen from connection to your home WIFI then USB updates are pretty painless once you've got the hang of things and the time to spare.

The next bit is purely personal opinion, unless you have a particular issue or quirk I wouldn't worry about applying updates until the Ford portal prompts you and that's usually that you need to update firmware to accommodate a map update.

Hi all,

Further to my post above although my sync screen said the new download to 3.4.21265 was complete and Ford accepted the xml file, when I checked the version on the car it is still saying it is 3.4.21194. So as you say Andy I guess I shall have to wait until Ford UK release it.
