Locking nuts

Featured Replies

Hi is there any body out there can help me I have lost my alloy wheel locking nut to my fiesta st line x been to the Ford dealers did not what to no waste of time

This happened to me.

Tried using slightly undersized sockets, no joy.

In the end, found a mobile tyre bloke who had the gear and took them off in a matter of minutes. He charged me £10 a wheel.

A lesson learnt ☹️

It is possible to loosen them with a hammer and chisel.

Ring round your local tyre-fitters - one of them will offer a service where they use a special 'blank' soft brass key to hammer onto the locking nuts and get them off.  My local specialist charged me a lot less than 10 GBP per nut.  Then IIWY replace with ordinary nuts - why? Because Ford keys (and locking nuts) are expensive/unobtainable and made of cheese anyway.

If you must have locking nuts, get some decent quality ones such as McGard.

Does anyone steal wheels anymore? It's been years since I've seen a car up on bricks. Much more likely to get your petrol nicked LOL 🤣

I haven’t replaced mine for that reason 🙂

I recently fitted a lowering kit on my friend's car but the locking key was damaged, ended up drilling the outer ring off then hammering a 12 point socket on which done the trick.
