KNOCKING NOISE

Featured Replies

hi all first timer here, bought a 2013 fiesta 2 door about 2 weeks ago,all seemed fine, and drives well, but when im driveing at low speed around 15 to 20 mph over rough  patches of road i  can hear a rattling/knocking noise coming from the front,it seems to go when i speed up,i jacked it up and could see nothing loose, its really annoying, any ideas?

could be the ant roll bar drop links worn out

Jack up the car and try and shake the wheel, also try and see if there is play in the sway bar drop link ball joints, and look at the bushes to make sure they are fine, and make sure you don't have a bit of snapped spring hanging onto your shock.

was told it also could be the inner tie rod arms, could that be the problem?

Take to a local garage or some one you trust with a ramp or hoist and get under it with a pry bar you'll soon find the issue, there will be excessive movement in the joints, basic MOT style tests.

Got a similar issue with my friends 2014 Fiesta, this is what I need to check next after replacing track rod end after feeling movement there, though can still feel movement shaking the wheel/tyre side to side.

WHEEL MOVEMENT FROM SIDE TO SIDE COULD MEAN LOOSE OR WORN BEARINGS

Bearings seem fine, no noise or roughness.

This happens when holding the wheel/tyre at 3 and 9 o'clock positions and shaking, and also when having someone rock the steering wheel.

track rod ends

Changed that already.

Well, as it's been a few weeks (and 3000 miles) since I changed that and the knocking had got worse, turned out to be the lower ball joint so we replaced the whole arm. Noise gone.
