Removing glass from (powered) front door window on 2009 (Mk 7) Fiesta (3 door)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am trying to replace regulator on for the electric window on my 2009 Fiesta. In order to do that I need to remove the glass window, but are struggling to figure out want I need to do.

These videos show a 2009 Fiesta having two sight holes and two nuts to undo -
www.youtube.com/watch?v=imHfI9P_I4Q&ab_channel=GiannisPapadimas and www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzJ7BJRQgmk&ab_channel=AutoRepairGuys (10.05)

On mine there is only one sight hole and that doesn't have any nuts to undo. As far as I can see there might be a hole in glass where a plastic insert goes into the glass (pictured). I'm tried pushing and turning the insert but it doesn't seem to work.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Those videos are for 5 door models which is why they don't work for your 3 door car.

I can't find a decent 3 door vid from a quick YouTube search unfortunately, but this one gives a slightly better idea.

Thanks for the reply.

Is it possible that you can have a go at describing what I need to do? Am I right in thinking that I need to lower the glass to say three-quarters the way down so that I see the plastic insert? Then want? 'Unhook' the insert off the glass? Unscrew the plastic insert?

Any tips appreciated!

Yes, the glass needs to be lowered so you can see those white plastic clamps, one through the hole where your arrow is and the other through the speaker hole.  The clip is sort of sprung (for want of a better word), so you should just push it backwards with the screwdriver to release the glass.  You'll need to lift the glass slightly as well, otherwise it'll just reseat itself.  Hopefully that makes sense, it's surprisingly difficult to describe but easy when you realise how to do it!

Thanks for the reply.

I have taken the speaker out and I can't see anything in there that I need to do to take the glass out? It looks like the glass just sits within a plastic guide, which goes up and down with the plastic guide? Nothing to unclip?

Doesn't it roll down further to line up with the rectangle in the metal runner?

Yes the white plastic guide will slide down further and therefore the glass will come down further, although the photo was taken at the level where the plastic insert thingy can only be pressed on the other side. Any higher or lower and you can see the insert.

Is there not a small plastic 'lump' that goes through the hole in the glass?  That's what needs to be pushed backwards, accessible through the rectangle I thought.

If there's nothing through the glass then you would just need to 'open' that plastic clip a little and pull the glass upwards.  I'm 99% sure there's something through it but memories are admittedly getting hazy now.

Do be careful poking a screwdriver around the glass itself as it's so easy to shatter car windows.
