Replacement keyfob

Featured Replies

I have a 2019 Ford fiesta with keyless entry and a push button start. I have lost one of the key fobs. I have been quoted £300 to replace the fob, cut a new key and re-programme the fob. Fobs seem to be available on Amazon for around £30 so is this quote the normal price and can you get the  key cut elsewhere and do the re-programming yourself?

On a 2019 car the security part of the key called the 'Transponder' can only be programmed in to the car by a Ford dealer. On older models before 2013 it was something you could do yourself.

The normal cost at a main dealer to supply a new keyfob, cut the blade and reprogramme is £199.00 You can also ask them to delete the missing key from the car so that it will no longer work if it was to be found by someone.

The keys you can buy on eBay and Amazon for £20 - £40 are intended as a replacement when your original is just worn out or damaged.  In those cases you can transfer over the transponder chip (or with some the whole PCB).

Very few places are willing to cut blanks provided by the customer, and you would still need it programmed in to the car which a main dealer won't do in most cases.

Thank you very much for your reply, it was most helpful.  I will go back to the dealer and have further discussion about the cost.
