Leaves/debris trapped between body and hood

Featured Replies

Hey is there suppose to be gap between the windscreen and the plastic guard to stop leaves /debris falling into the engine?

There seems to be a 1cm gap between the windscreen and that guard on my fiesta.

there’s a big fern tree near my house which constantly sheds those leaves all year round which is quite annoying!

are you suppose to clean debris / leaves out as there seems to be loads stuck inbetween the bonnet and the engine in that guard. Not sure how you go about it as the guard doesn’t seem to be removable ?

thanks

Mines the same, it'll do no harm, the plastics only there to act as a buffer for rain water to stop it from flooding the cabin

I had the same problem. It will let water under it and in to engine bay where it will soak sound deadening material. And make it moldy over time. As well as causing interior to mist up when parked.

I removed the top half of the cowl to expose the clip that attaches to the length of the windscreen that had become detached ran a bead of black silicone sealant along the length of the clip and reattached it. Then I places a good bead of silicone along length of cowl where it will meet the screen. Cliped the 2 pieces together wiped off excess and allowed to dry 24 hours before closing bonnet.

Below is a picture of mine after the fix as you can see water goes over the top into the gutter and not underneath.

It is there to channel water away from engine bay and discharges over the front wheels it can make cabin damp.

It's best fixed I've had to repair 2 now on the Mk7/7.5 it's a common problem that has been fixed on the Mk8 with a new design.

I would leaf it alone

If left unfixed the interior fogs up like crazy in winter when parked and the sound deadening material goes moldy as it's nearly always wet.

I had a car many years ago that used to get things stuck behind the grill like that.

I got a piece of rubber hosing that was small enough to fit in the grill slats, bodged up a connection to my vacuum cleaner with some gaffer tape and was able to get rid of most of the bits that way. Obviouly make sure you aren't sucking up any liquids into your vacuum (unless it's one desingned for that of course).

Worth a try if you can find some suitable hosing, needs to be fairly thick walled so it doesn't collapse under the vaccum.

The whole area between back edge of bonnet and windscreen is a detritus trap, am for ever cleaning mine out even moss growing between scuttle and screen, been tempted as previously posted to give it a good clean out and silicone it down.
