Broken rear spring- but what is part number

Featured Replies

Rear spring broke.  2015 fiesta style econetic 1.5tdci 95bhp.  72k miles.  Please bear in mind ‘econetic’ has lower suspension than standard - I think.  There seems to be 7 different rear springs. As far as I can tell what I need is part number 1787715. But I am not sure.  Spring has three blue blobs on it, but I can’t find anything to tell me what that means.  I know it is to identify spring rate etc but I can’t find anything that translates the three blue blobs to a part number. Can anyone say from the blue blobs if 1787715 is correct.   To confuse, if you search on eBay for fiesta econetic rear spring there are some listed to left side only, but I can’t find anything elsewhere indicating any of these cars had a different spring on left and right. Any assistance to help buying correct spring gratefully received.  I know someone will say buy a pair. Unless a pair is only a small amount more than one, then I will only buy one.

If you put your VIN into Catcar, it may well give you the correct part number

Thanks . Not seen that site before, it was looking good but then found in the list of parts it did not list the spring. In diagram image 5560 is for spring.  No box round 5560 and no springs in list

This is another similar site, but not used it myself

Digressing - Sierra XR4x4 had different springs left to right on the front, to counter the weight of the offset front diff and shaft.  Car don't half look funny when you mix them up !

Quite a choice.......

Do you have your build data from the Ford Etis site ?

That may give you a clue, as there is a lot of options in the previous image.

I only got 1896716 when searching with 'Econetic' in 7zap.  I think the best thing would be to put your exact build spec into 7zap and see what it shows.

Alternatively, this might be one of few instances where it's worth calling a dealer who can check the current parts catalog with your VIN.

Hi, I think it’s solved.  In this thread

There are some pics which show three blue blobs on the springs and it seems he bought the part number I mentioned. Thanks.  What’s confusing is the idea that Econetic has sports suspension when it was built as the low fuel consumption model with higher gearing and skinny wheels.

It's lower for better aerodynamics, which means it then also needs to be a bit stiffer to stop bottoming out.  They already have 'sports' models set up like that so no need to waste money designing new spring rates for the Econetic model.

Update.  Got the spring from eBay £23.46 including postage. Make Napa.  Seems fine(but only on car 30 mins and only driven 1 mile). Very easy to fit.  Only one bolt needs undoing , the lower shock bolt.  Don’t even have to take wheel off. One of those rare quick easy jobs where no unexpected hitches caused problems.

The other rear spring broke yesterday, I heard it go as I went over a moderate speed hump at an appropriate speed. Bottom Has broken off just like the other one did. In 41 years of motoring I have only had three springs break. Two on this fiesta, one on a mk1 Granada over 30 years ago.  Very disappointing. At least they are very easy to change.
