Newbie with a problem

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm newbie vehicle is a ford fiesta 1.4 diesel manual 2009, my daughters, she has a problem where accelerate pedal won't rev over 1800/2000, had a fella come over with his diagnostic equipment couldn't find any codes, no eml, the chap is very experienced with this equipment, so can't doubt his ability, problem happened once before but sorted its self, she started off driving, 2/3 minutes car no power up a little incline really struggled pulled over switched off started again, (this worked last time) tried to pull away 1st gear stalled, wouldn't pull the car up incline, reverse back well rolled back bought car back home, I have changed oil and filter, fuel filter air filter sprayed maf with connector cleaner, the fella said there's a slight miss on tick over, any ideas, dd

I can't give you a solution to your problems but I hope you used the correct cleaning fluid for the sensor and followed some basic instructions before using it.

Never use MAF sensor cleaner with the engine running or even with the key in the run position. This can cause major damage to the sensor.

Is it an MK6 or MK7 and is this more apparent on an incline? Does the issue go away almost on flat?

It sounds like your fuel pump could be due a replacement. Personally, I'd do a fuel pressure test on it to truly rule that out, see what it's achieving at the rail and if its up to spec. If there is a slight misfire then it further raises suspicions around the fuel delivery system and something not being right. Anything else I can think of would have likely thrown an error code. However, it might also be worth removing the EGR and giving it a good clean (I'm not recommending this but I personally remove the pipe and EGR and clean it out with oven cleaner and wire wool and have never had an issue) as it could possibly be stuck but you should be able to see this without removing it by reading the relevant info from the forscan windows software with you car plugged in.
