Cut airbag bonnet connector on a fiesta mk7.5, any way to remedy this?

Featured Replies

I had the common bonnet open/alarm problem and I saw many people saying all they had to was twist the wires together.. so that's pretty much what I did, I looked for the wires coming into the bonnet latch, cut them from the connector, and twisted them together. What ended up happening was me getting into my car, still having the "bonnet open" message but this time I had the airbag warning light on the dash.

Turns out I'm an idiot and I didn't notice the other wire so I didn't check which one is which, I cut off the airbag wire from the connector and I did it in such a way that I can't even really solder them back or anything similar. I'm slightly scared to drive my car now because it's something to do with an airbag which I don't want to go off while driving, but I can't not drive since I need to work.

Is there any way in which I can fix this? I was looking into buying the connector so I can just plug it up but I can't seem to find the part online. I live in UK if anyone knew where to look..

From what you've got left on there, surely you could solder some extra lengths of separate wire on first before soldering it to the wired in the car? Extend it then solder it?

Well I have never soldered anything in my life so honestly I'd prefer to just switch out the cable

Looks like a trip to the scrap yard for some bits.

The moral of the story is "don't try and bodge things", just do a proper repair the first time and it saves a lot of time.

Untwist the wires and tape them up for now.  That'll stop the crash detection/SRS warning being set off.  Obviously if you do have a head on crash, the system won't work as intended until fixed.  (Will also affect your insurance...so just make sure not to crash lol).
