Battery drain and Horn sounding 2013 Mk7 Fiesta.

Featured Replies

My partners car, a 2013 Mk7 Fiesta has intermittant fault where the horn sounds constantly while it's parked up with the engine off and locked up, tapping the horn gently stops the sound.

Paid for Ford to replace horn but it still happens. The battery drains after about 1 week with the horn fuse pulled out. Paid for a new battery too.

Paid for a diagnostic but Ford cant find anything wrong. I have tried to find a parasitic draw but cant find anything. Average draw on the battery is about 28 milliamps.

Does anyone have any more ideas of what I can do to fix it, because I'm all out?

Did you replace the horn itself or the horn push?

"sounds like" there's nothing wrong with the horn itself 😉

Shouldn't it only work with the ignition on? (I'm not going to try mine now at 12.30 am)!

Some car horns do work with the ignition off, not sure if Ford's of this era do though.  Someone will have to try it!

I agree with Bob, if tapping the horn switch stops it, that would suggest a fault in that area.  There are springs on the back of the airbag to hold it 'out' from the wheel casing...one of those springs could be weak/broken, or there could be something else shorting them.  It takes literally seconds to remove the airbag and have a look behind it.

Thank you for the reply. Fords invoice says 'Replaced Horn £125'

Thank you for the reply. The first time it went off it was 2.30am so my neighbours were not happy either! 😂

Thank you for the reply. I will try to remove the airbag and check it. I'm not sure how but im sure if there's a youtube video I can follow it.

Did they fit one from a Rolls Royce ?

The old one was working perfectly so why replace it ?

The fault clearly has to be something is supplying the horn with power when it shouldn't be. If the headlight came on in the middle of the night would the garage try and fix that by fitting a new bulb ?

A bulb!?  They'd be fitting a full new cluster...
