Boot unlock frustrations

Featured Replies

I know it’s a common issue and I have now replaced the lock mechanism itself but the issue remains 😟

what other steps can be taken to ensure the boot doesn’t open as soon as I engage reverse!!!???

A slam of it after first open seems to work but it’s maddeningly frustrating.

what else could be a permanent fix?

(2012 Titanium)

thank you

It is normally the boot lock button that is the cause of the fault.

Could there be a cross-connection (worn wires within the tailgate, perhaps) from the reversing lamp wires in the tailgate to one of the wires that's connected to the boot microswitch , thus triggering it to open when you select reverse.

But a new switch, as Unofix says, is a very cheap and quick thing to try first.

yeh its usually that part which you open the boot with...the rubber bit on it is what gets water in. i had to have mine changed a while back..asked the mechanic and he was like yeh its wet inside

ps. i got a genuine ford one fitted not a cheap chinese one off ebay 🙂

Pleased to report that it was the switch itself that was at fault.

I first changed the locking mechanism but in doing that the open at random issue continued AND it started to flatten the battery too by trying to open itself even when the car was locked!!!

Replacing the switch with the part illustrated above fixed both issues and now all good.

thanks for the advice
