Coolant Leak

Featured Replies

Good Morning,

I purchased a 2006 Ford Fiesta over a month ago, it’s a very clean car everywhere. I have looked under the bonnet multiple times, but today I noticed there is coolant puddles under/near the expansion tank. Any thoughts for the photos?

Thanks

Hi,

I would usually suggest the coolant tank itself, but yours appears to be fairly new?  It certainly looks in better condition that most after 10+ years!  It's possible the small top pipe is weeping a little with the engine running - that should be easy enough to check.

Though I'm wondering if that's not actually coolant at all.  That's a hydraulic engine mount, and I'm thinking the mount itself may be leaking.  Common issue with the Focus mounts but I must admit I haven't seen a Fiesta mount leak...and if it did, I'm not sure whether it'd leak from the top like that, or whether it would be from the bottom.

Best advice I can give at the moment is to wipe it up with some white tissue and see what colour it is.  Then see if you can see any leaks next time the engine is hot & running.

Thank you for the response. Pretty sure after looking again it is coolant liquid, the smell and colour on a tissue points me to that. I took your advice and cleaned up all of the mess and left the engine running for 20 minutes, giving it some revs too and nothing appeared. I Will monitor again once I’ve driven the car around.
