Alloy wheels

Featured Replies

New to all this so sorry if I’m asking things that may be obvious 👍

own a 63 plate fiesta zetec s 1.6 tdci

it currently has 16inch wheels as standard

would like to know what size wheels I could fit ie 17/ 7j

what is everyone else running that may help me decide

thanks in advance

I think the 16 inch wheels give a more comfortable ride.

18 inch. Been fine on both cars.

Depends on tyre quality also in my opinion.

i put 17" on my focus, and feel its a slightly harsher ride

Mk7s were available from the factory with 17 x7J  with a 47.5 offset,  7.5j  will fit ok with the same 205/40/17 tyres. If going for aftermarket wheels you can get a lower offset to make the wheels stick out a bit more, same effect as using spacers on a standard wheel.

18s do fit but need to be the right width, offset and tyre spec to avoid rubbing.

Ride  comfort can suffer as the tyre sidewall will be smaller, if that’s a concern.

Bigger wheels with lower profile tyres does not only mean harsher ride it also means more likely to suffer rim damage from kerbs and pot holes

ride is fairly hard now so might have to think carefully on this one

Exactly my case 5 days after getting my new car!

pothole busted my wheel.

I’ve got 14 inch wheels with 175,65,14 tyres.  And it’s steel wheels with plastic wheel trims on. Not very stylish or trendy - but I’m old and prefer the less harsh ride and longevity of the small steel wheels

Also if you are changing wheel sizes, take into account you may have a discrepancy on your speedometer… when you consider that modern day speed cameras do not allow any allowance, last thing you want is points.

if you keep the wheel within a certain circumference the speed will not be changed. bigger wheels = lower tyre wall
