End of 3 door Fiesta

More streamlining of the model range, maybe the number of 3dr cars against 5dr just means there just isn’t a business case to produce two variants.

Having owned both the 5dr is the more practical variant.

Looks like the new pricelist is already up. Seems like they've dropped the Vignale named trim as well (gone back to the X for the higher trim version).

https://www.ford.co.uk/content/dam/guxeu/uk/documents/price-list/cars/PL-New_fiesta.pdf

Also looks like the 155 tune engine has been dropped also in the Fiesta. Plus the reduction in ST trims, just ST line, ST X and ST3, although this might have changed previously/

5 doors and no 155ps engine is one of the main reasons I have now moved away from the Fiesta.

Not to mention everything else you cannot have on them now.

And the fact that they are over priced and have removed standard equipment. Steel wheels on a Titanium????

I've never liked 3 door cars myself...especially in anything Focus/Golf sized or larger.  The Fiesta just about got away with it (imo!) but for me it wouldn't be any major loss to drop 3 door models.  I assume the majority of buyers opt for 5 doors, with 3 doors generally only being the ST/STLX and a fairly small percentage of overall sales.

I do think this is part of a bigger 'total loss' for the Fiesta though...with something small and electric with a funky new name to replace it in the coming years.

Like Tom for some reason I never liked 3 door cars. All my many Fiestas have been 5 door even though there is only me and her indoors. Just seem to look better to me.

No, loss of the 3 door won't bother me either. A Mk 1 or 2 XR2 would have looked a bit odd with 5 doors, mind, but to me the Mk 8 looks just as good with 5 doors as 3, probably because it's a bigger car these days.

Like John, there's only two of us, but we just find It easier to bung stuff in through the back doors when fully loading.

It only brings the Fiesta into line with other brands anyway, I guess. In fact the engine range is getting spookily close to what you get in a Polo for instance, which has a normally aspirated 1.0, then a turbo in 2 power ratings, then the 2.0GTI with 207ps.

I'll be in the minority, most likely.

I think small hatchback cars, if you can call them small these days, should be 3 door cars.   I personally think they look better.

Well, it's personal preference at the end of the day and it was nice to have the choice while it lasted!😀

Looks like I'll have to leave the Fiesta Club when my lease ends in October this year.

I doubt I'll be able to get the model I wanted (the 155 MHEV ST-Line) to replace my St-Line X 140.

Personally I would have gone for the 3 door but would be ok with  5 doors if that wasn't available. Sadly it seems neither the engine nor the number of doors I'd prefer are going to be available.

Currently looking at the Mazda 3 range.

Nor did I. Until I tried one again and had a completely changed opinion so I walked away waiting for an ST. 😁

I use to be exactly the same, until frequently I found myself shipping around an increasingly aging set of parents (in their 80s) where it was obvious that manipulating into a 3 door was just cruel! Now had 2 x 5 doors, a Merc C Class, and my current Focus. Must admit, I'm now sold on their practicality, though, if I won a 911 in a raffle, I'd likely keep it 🤣

I had one as a courtesy car a few months ago for 3 days.

I really didn't like it, I don't like sitting that high up and it just felt like it was too heavy.

Despite driving it the same as my ST-Line 140 I only got about 38mpg where I get over 50mpg in the Fiesta. I'm sure they are useful if you are ferrying around family etc... but not for me. Just a fat and thirsty Fiesta on stilts.

Wait a few decades, they'll grow on you 🤣 You're simply too young now...

Erm, in two decades I'm likely to be dead .

Maybe they'll have suv hearses by then

According to Extinction Rebellion, we all only have one decade left, make the most of it LOL 🤣

Agreed, I have always preferred 3 doors, though it's only ever been me and a partner to worry about and I never use the rear for anything.

You're lucky, Mike. Only the two of us also, but my Mrs and the concept of travelling light are complete strangers, so if we have a cottage holiday (which we often do) every available space gets filled!😀

But going back to the original point of the thread, I do wonder why Ford didn't delete the 3 door at the time the facelift was launched, rather than a few weeks afterwards. They could then have put a more positive spin on it - streamlining the range, in response to customer preference, etc, etc.

Not sure you read my post correctly, I've never liked 3 doors lol!

Having said that, I had a similar experience after buying my first 3 door car (after 4 previous 5 door models).  Bought a 3 door Golf back in 2011...didn't want 3 door, but it was local and...well, as I can't travel that was basically the main criteria!

3 months later, I was asked to collect my Grandad from hospital after a heart operation...really not a fan of hospitals but no-one else was available on the day.  My disabled Nan insisted on coming with me.  We got back to the car and realised my Nan physically couldn't manoeuvre into the back seat, and my Grandad didn't have the strength to do it...  That sort of cemented my feelings on 3 door cars, I haven't had a 3 door daily since.  Just a few stop gaps or 'fun' second cars that weren't offered in 5dr.

Same experience here, my first Fiesta was a 3 door, I was thinking "It'll be fine, I only drive by myself to and from work" Then same as you, need to ferry grandparents and the hassle began, so it's been 5 door since 🙂

  • 2 weeks later...

Call from dealer yesterday, Puma ST will go into production 24th June and be delivered to dealer 1st to 2nd week of August. Not too bad of a delay really, all things considered.
