Anyone else have strange coincidences?

Our latest one, we got speaking to the couple in the apartment next to us in Spain this week. They were from Scotland but live near Birmingham, so far so normal. 

When we mentioned that we were from Orkney she exclaimed that her grandparents were from Orkney and started telling us her family history. Turns out that her and Mrs Turvey are related, albeit quite distant. When she was telling us about her family tree a couple of names cropped up that we were familiar with including someone I work with and another friend. 

Anyway, on return to Aberdeen this morning we went into Wetherspoons for breakfast and bumped into aforementioned friend who is down for the weekend! Explained the story about relationships etc and apparently he's got vintage cine film of the family that he's going to transfer and get passed on to the couple in Birmingham.

Next coincidence? He's staying in the same hotel as us, 2 doors down from us! 😀

Probably not interesting to anyone else but I found it quite intriguing 🤷

I know what you mean. It can be a very small world, scarily so sometimes.

When going on holiday abroad i quite often used to bump into someone I know who lived locally.  Not in the last 15 yrs  or so though. 

But next holiday we are going to maderia. I booked it with only a brief conversation with my partner who suggested it . Booked and sorted within an hour of conversation. Not spoken to anyone else about it at all. Not even a " I would like to go or have you been to" 

2 days later I called in on my sister and brother in law to say we going away and could they look after rabbit/ water plants etc . Oh, they going away around the same time. Err, where they going? Maderia! What days ? What day there flight , same day.

So same destination, same day, same tour operator, same flights and duration! Unbelievable. Ah, I said, but we staying in a 5 star hotel as a first for us! So are we my sister said. Can't be same hotel, surely. Yep!! 

There's even only 1 row separating us on the plane. And same carpark at airport( choice of 5) 

It's a good job I get on with this sister and brother in law. 

 

As a kid i remember going on holiday to Wales and a day trip out to Swallow Falls, we had a fortnights base on a caravan park at Clarach Bay. We lived in Darwen in Lancashire at the time and my father worked at ICI. On the steps to the falls he met 2 guys from ICI

Thought of another couple of instances.

Around 12 years ago Green Day announced a UK tour, but only dates in England! (They added Glasgow AFTER we bought tickets!) 🙄😀 We bought tickets for Manchester Old Trafford cricket ground as I had an uncle and aunty who lived close by who we could stay with. 

During the gig I went to the toilet and literally bumped into an ex work colleague! Mind on we live in Orkney so bumping into someone you know in Manchester is a bit of a coincidence.

Next one, about 37 years ago I started work in a pub in Aberdeen. I got a room in a house of a couple with a young daughter. I was only there for a year and with having funny shifts only met the 'man of the house' a couple of times.

Fast forward about 25 years and I'm now back home in Orkney working at a local wholesalers getting to know all the reps that came up. One week one of the tobacco company reps came up with his soon to be replacement as he was retiring. He looked familiar but I couldn't place him in the beginning. Anyway, they took me and my boss out for a meal and after a couple of drinks it came to me where I thought I knew him from but I still wasn't sure so I asked him if he had lived on Broomhill Road in Aberdeen. He looked at me warily and said he had. I then told him his wife's name and his daughter's and he looked even more suspiciously and it was only when I asked if he remembered taking in lodgers that it clicked with him that he had been my landlord 25 years ago! 

 

 

Another Green Day coincidence!

Bumped into a pal that I hadn't spoken to for a couple of years at the gig last night, not quite as an unexpected meeting seeing it was Glasgow but considering the crowds that were there was still funny seeing someone you know.

Bumped into him again today in Primark! Not quite so rock and roll! 😀

Coincidence , not very exciting but I’m bored.  Last month I hired a car at Thessaloniki (Greece) airport.  A few days later I parked my white fiat panda in a car park about 40 miles away .  When I came back there were two identical fiat pandas two spaces apart.  I wasnt sure which was mine and then noticed the reg numbers were one after the other.
