Ford Fiesta MK6 1.4 Petrol - Car stalling when cold

Featured Replies

Good afternoon everyone,

I need your help! Me and my brother are at our wits end and I'm hoping that one of you may be able to share some wisdom.

The problem I'm having is that when the car is cold (sometimes when it's warmed up), the revs will drop on start up unless I have my foot on the gas and the car will stall, I have looked on other forums and we've gone through quite a lot. so far we have tried the following with no luck;

  • Tried servicing and replacing spark plugs
  • There was an engine light on so replaced the O2 sensor as needed replacing anyway, most likely not related to the issue.
  • Checked for any air leaks, one pipe was split and replaced but it hasn't resolved the issue.
  • Most people suggest the idle air control valve, as it's a later car we don't have one so we tried cleaning the throttle body, this didn't work so I replaced the throttle body and this also didn't fix the problem
  • Some people have fixed this by updating the ECU, I took this to a ford dealer today and unfortunately no update was available.

My brother was a mechanic for a ford dealer for years and in all honesty he's pretty stumped, he's usually pretty good at finding the problem in situations like this but is there anything you recommend we check?

Please let me know if I've missed any major information.

Thanks in advance!

They use a snap on diagnostic tool and there are no DTC's stored unfortunately, at the dealer I mentioned on my above post they also didn't pick up an errors. Very frustrating!

Yes they are very good, but I say again, 'Generic code readers will not read all Ford specific DTC's'

You can choose to take your car to a Ford dealer, or use the FORScan software. They are the only two options that will ensure any Ford DTC's are read.
