Holts carb cleaner from euro car parts

Featured Replies

Cheeky query as it’s not about my fiesta.  I’m cleaning carbs on one of my Japanese motorbikes which has stood for many years. Can anyone recommend the carb cleaner in the title?  Or from experience know it’s not as good as another make?  The carbs 4 of them are coated in a sort of varnish inside which seems to happen when modern petrol evaporates over time.  Also some of the black rubber seals in the carbs have decomposed and leave what is like black glue. Any recommendations welcome.   Also does the stuff need scrubbing with a tooth brush etc or will it just dissolve everything so I can spray on and then blow it off with compressed air line?

Why post it in the Fiesta section then! 😛 In saying that it could be useful to classic car owners (inc early Fieastas) who don't use them much.

I've not use carb cleaners before, so not sure myself. I can't really find any tests on YouTube for carb cleaners.

I did wonder if this damage to seals etc, could be due to the increased Ethanol content in modern petrol, but possibly not if they stored for years. If you know your are not going to use for a while, there are fuel stabilisers you can add to the tank which claim to reduce evaporation and prevent this gumming up.

Thanks.  I put it in fiesta section as it’s the one that is most used and will be seen my more people, a lot of which do work on various cars as opposed to just owning a new fiesta.  I’ll probably buy that one tomorrow and hope it can perform miracles.
