Sat Nav update?

Featured Replies

I have a 2017 Mondeo Tianium Estate 2.0 Diesel.

The sat nav appears at least 5 or more years out of date but there appers to be no updates available?

ANyone been able to update their sat nav?

I have a 2018 S-Max Titanium, which is mostly based on the Mondeo running gear and I gave up on the Ford satnav update route. If you have Sync3 then the easiest way is via CyanLabs. I have updated my original Sync 3.0 system to the the latest Sync 3.4 with the latest F10 maps.

If you visit the UK Ford Sync site and input your VIN, it should provide you with updates.   My maps, along with others, had an update a few months ago, not actually updated it yet, but it does update relatively regularly.

Don't know what to say pal, it just works for me.  Did you follow the instructions for preparing the USB drive in the correct format?

just tried this, downloaded to a flash drive, plugged it into the car, update in progress message then  update complete, removed USB flash drive turned car off, locked it and waited a couple of minuets, still showing SYNC 3 version 3  and maps version F7.

I downloaded it twice and twice uploaded it to the car but even though it says successful nothing appears to have changed

how long did this "update in progress" take ?

I was expecting 30 mins but actually took about 15 mins each time, have checked the download files and they are complete as to what the Ford site says should have been downloaded.

To do the full map update plus other files needed generally takes more than an hour, quite often 90 minutes, so it is fair to say that it would be impossible to do a full update in only 15 minutes.

I think you should start over again. Firstly you need a USB pen drive of ideally 32Gb, and then Format it in "ExFat"

For ease of use and to get the most up to date Files and Maps use the Cyan-Labs site. The site is easier to use than the Ford site and the files are packaged in a better manner.

Once you insert the USB pen drive in to your car do not remove it, the Ford prompts of switch of and cycle the ignition cause a lot of issues, just ignore them. You do not have to do the update all in one go, so long as you do not remove the USB pen drive the install will continue each time you start the car. When the update is truly finished you will get a message on the Sync3 screen telling you there has been an update. Check that the map version has increased (now F11).

Cyan-Labs: https://cyanlabs.net/fhub/

I agree with Unofix and as I said earlier, the CyanLabs method is much easier to do. It still uses the official Ford maps and firmware, but it is a more flexible and reliable way to update your system.

Done all that twice over, it states on the Ford web site • You’ll need a USB Flash Drive of at least 4 GB of space. Please make sure it’s clear of any other files on the drive. • The in-vehicle update will take about 20-30 minutes to complete.

The download I got was in respect to my VIN number that is put into the Ford site, the software I have for my SYNC 3  is version 3  build 20204 with navigation maps version F7

Using a 32g flash drive which I formatted to FAT 32, I have just checked and now have formatted it to exFAT and will try again

and that I think you will find is the problem. Sync3 can not read FAT32 formatted USB's.

If it is telling you that the update is only going to take 20-30 minutes then it is planning to do the update in two stages. First it will update all files except the Maps, then when you go back to the Ford site to upload the confirmation file it will then tell you there is a new update waiting. Then you have to repeat the process and the second time it will install the F10 maps (which are already out of date), the brand new maps are now F11

How to update Sync3:

https://www.ford.co.uk/content/dam/guxeu/uk/owners/resources-support/sync-support/update/SYNC_3_USB_MAPS-Update-Guide.pdf

reformatted the flash drive to exFAT and downloaded the whole package again, unzipped it straight to the USB stick and tried again, plugged in the USB, updating software comes up and 15 mins later software complete, turns off engine after removing the USB and locks the car, wated a couple of mins as instructed on the ford web site and re-enters, and surprise surprise surprise, Cilla is back, no nothing has happened still the same version, so what parts, bits, versions do I download from Cyan labs as had enough of Fords site, so I can get mine updated from SYNC version 3 and navigation version F7 ???

Don’t remove the usb when key cycling.  Only if it says install complete and you can remove.

so when it says you can remove the USB as the software install is complete you dont as its not complete, as it says as soon as possible stop the car and exit, lock the car and make sure the system powers down the re-enter and turn on.

If it says it’s safe to remove USB then you can yes.

I was just checking it wasn’t only asking for a key cycle. As you are supposed to leave it in, in that case.

still does not work so going down the Cyan labs route now as fed up messing around with the Ford site

Well that wouldn't work.

You have to create the folder 'SyncMyRide' and then only the main file goes in to that.

You don’t have to create any files or folders. The correct structure should be in the download provider by ford. Unzip it to the root directory of the usb and it should create the syncmyride folder from the zip.

It certainly never used to, has this changed recently ?

Every update I’ve ever done for sync 3.0 or 3.2+ has for me.

I found subtle differences between updating after unzipping on a PC vs Mac…

PC always worked as expected every time… Mac never seemed to unzip right unless you had a certain program to unzip the files.

It would seem that you are one of the fortunate ones, or is it that many of us are unfortunate? Even Ford seem unsure as to if the system will create the 'SyncMyRide' folder or if you will have to do it yourself.

This was the exact issue with the PC vs Mac that we had with a few of us at work…

I ended up having to do everyone’s updates with my trusty PC downloads and unzip!!
all the other Mac boys it just wouldn’t work for!

well first attempt with the cyan labs version and its updating looking good so far as its been more than 25 mins and still going
