Seized tie rod end cost

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently changed my lower arms and noticed that my steering wheel is a big off centred. It doesn’t affect driving that much but I know it should be done.
Im just wondering how much does it usually cost to replace seized tie rod ends? Hopefully the garage can get it off with torch and stuff.

thank you 🙂

Will depend on the amount of time it takes them to remove.  I had one rusted so solid that the garage couldn't remove it after 30 minutes trying.  So they just adjusted one side!   Needless to say I didn't use them again.

If you can get it loose yourself, that'll save you some cash, but I'm guessing you've already tried it.

I think only passenger side needs adjusting but hopefully it won’t take them too long to remove. I might soak them on WD40 overnight before taking it to them 🙂

they normal use heat to crack them 🙂

If you can use Plus Gas or another specialist penetrating fluid to soak it. They are far better penetrating fluids than WD 40.

A dribble of diesel is good as well, it doesn't evaporate like the spray on penetrants.  Just sits and soaks.  Admittedly not so effective on a vertical nut as a horizontal one though.

Just had front wheel alignment done! I soaked them in WD40 over night and they didn’t have any issue with my tie rod end 🙂 it’s weird as I took it to kwik fit in town before and they said they can’t do alignment as they were seized. Maybe WD40 helped or they just tried to upsell? I don’t know haha

Went for a long test drive and found out that the car is pulling to right.. I called the local garage which I’ve been using for awhile and they said they need to take my lower arms off and put them again since I’ve done something wrong when I put the lower arms?! They already charged £54 for alignment and said it will cost me some labour..

So I took it to wheel alignment specialist near my school and it took them 10mins to fix it with their hunter alignment machine. I am not going back to that garage again 🤨

Sadly there are a lot of poor garage's and poor mechanic's about. Finding a good trust worthy garage is very difficult.
