Fiesta Mk6 Zetec S Tappity when running

Featured Replies

Can anyone help.

When running the tappets or hydraulic lifters tap a bit.

Is it possible to adjust them without taking out the cams.

Thank you,

If they are 'tapping' then that is normally a sign of the oil needs changed, or the wrong grade of oil is being used.

A good oil and filter change with good quality oil of the right grade normally sorts hydraulic tappets. If they have become a bit 'gummed up' then you may need to use a flushing oil to clean the engine out.

The engine is sound and really clean. It's had new oil and filter with 5w30 which is the recommended grade.

It's not that bad but just needed to know if you can adjust the lifters without taking out the cams.

Thank you.

Did I miss if this was a Diesel or Petrol ?  As they are different ?

It's petrol

Yes it's petrol, only has 33k on the clock, FSH, I can't see why it would tap like that.

These don't use hydraulic lifters, they're solid.  No adjustment possible, can only be changed by physically replacing with different sized ones.

Thank you that, now I know it's cams out to replace. Thank you.

I have a petrol 2007 Zetec S with over a 100k on it.  A bit rattly when I bought it with 70k on the clock, and still is.  Professional advice was not too worry......

They normally are tappy until they warm up. My Mk7 is exactly the same
