Why is my Fiesta MK4 2002 overheating?

Featured Replies

When I say overheating I mean I have noticed the fan comes on sooner than it used to (maybe after 20 minutes of moderate driving, where as before it would take over an hour) yet the temperature gauge on the dashboard reads perfectly fine in the middle. Also I can feel warm air coming through the vents after 30 minutes even when the dial is set to ambient air.

The coolant level is fine and as far as I can tell there are no leaks. The fan also works fine as mentioned above.

Could it be that the thermostat is not allowing the correct amount of coolant to flow through the engine? How can I diagnose if it's the thermostat?

I should mention, a few months ago I upgraded to iridium spark plugs and performance HT leads, which apparently run a higher voltage and hotter spark...I hope this isn't causing the overheating.

Any suggestions as to how to diagnose this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I noticed a similar issue with my focus last week and just today it went from bad to worse. It seems like it's the thermostat at the moment but I'm still waiting on my mechanic. The fan like sound started very early in on my journeys and it persisted to continue after I turned the car off.

There might be some solutions on that thread link above.
