2019 Fiesta Active Warranty Question

Featured Replies

Anyone know if airbag modules are covered by Ford's 3 year warranty or will I have to pay for it?

I want to be sure airbags will operate in the event of accident

I bought this car from new from from main Ford dealer.

Airbag lamp is coming on too often and not going out. I have looked under seats and cannot see any disconnected wires.  Bending down too much is a problem for me due to age and health reasons.

My 3 year warranty expires July 29th this year. I do not have a obd reader, let alone how to use it.

It will depend on the actual fault, but most parts of the airbag system should be covered without question.

Only time it wouldn't be covered is if, for example, the wiring had been damaged by a pet chewing it or someone ramming luggage under the seat.

Have you tried unplugging & replugging the wires under the seat?  Chances are hat's all Ford will do as a first attempt!

Thanks for the reply, I'm not sure which seat has the fault, are the modules easy enough to loosen to check the wiring?

There's usually only one airbag module, hidden away around the dash/centre console and not so easy to access.  I don't know exactly where it is on the Mk8.

If you're open to learning how to use Forscan - and have a suitable laptop/phone/tablet to use with it - that would save any bending and guesswork, and pinpoint the exact area of the fault.

Would that pickup where the fault is?

Don't mess with connectors, it's under warranty.

book it in and get them to sort it

Within reason yes.  It'll tell you which part is triggering the fault (airbag, pretensioner, crash sensor, left, right, front, back, etc) but it can still take a bit more work to understand the exact cause from the fault code.  Plenty of us on here can help with further investigation or troubleshooting once we've got something to go on from Forscan though.

Personally I'd want to scan it with Forscan to have some idea of the fault even if you do then take it in to Ford to be fixed under warranty.  But that's because I don't trust garages!

I ordered a usb elm 327 from Tunnelrat last night, with luck it might be here tomorrow, forscan installed and waiting.

At least I should be able to tell the garage what causing the problem before booking it in.

Car booked in for tomorrow morning to get the airbag issue checked over as its still under warranty.

Typical the problem hasn't shown itself since June 1st.

Checked on Forscan no issues since then. Looks like nowt will be done. 🙄🤔

Regarding my previous post about airbag lamp intermittently staying on, a wee update.

Garage phoned me and tells me a new wiring loom is needed under the seat, part ordered and will take a couple of days.

Good news is job is covered by warranty👌

Chances are, it could have been fixed with a minor plug tweak...but being a warranty repair, they have to fit a whole new component!  Very glad you're getting it done while still under warranty.
