Clutch broke

Featured Replies

Driving home the other evening  my foot slipped right to the floor while trying to change gear approaching a island, luckily i managed to get over the island and park up until it died and i had to dump the car i can;t even put it in gear just flops to the floor.Anyone ever had this go ? im hoping its just the cable otherwise its not worth it

It's a hydraulic clutch, no cable.

The common fault is pedal clip snapping...so the clutch itself works fine, just the pedal is no longer connected to it.  Worth checking that before anything else.

Simple fix yes, just a bit awkward to access in the footwell.

There are also aftermarket repair kits which are said to prevent it ever happening again.  Cost under a tenner last time I checked.

Clutch pedal has a metal peg that sticks out of side of it.  Plastic pushrod from the clutch master cylinder goes over that peg. Sometimes it slides off the peg and just pushing it back on peg is enough to get you home. If you are unlucky the plastic push rod might de damaged.  Of course it’s quite hard to get up there above clutch pedal to have a good look.  To stop happening again it needs something on end of peg.  Eg star washer, you can buy a ring with a Allen key grub screw in it. On my sisters fiesta I checked when she first got it. It had a hole drilled with split pin through it.  But drilling up there was probably difficult access, perhaps pedal was removed but that’s more work.  The metal ring with grub screw is good, I have used one.  as I say, it might be easy fix and not need a garage / mechanic / recovery.   Fingers crossed.

No, full master cylinder is a much bigger job.

Hopefully it's just the clip/pin which can be repaired easily with the repair kits as you linked above.

Sweet ill order off amazon

Until you’ve checked no one knows quite what happened.  Eg if the plastic pushrod broke that it does need a new clutch master cylinder .  They don’t cost much but are quite tricky to fit (I have done one)., it’s just difficult to get your body in the right position to get up under the dash. Fingers crossed for you.
