Good day dear friends. I have an old Cortina which I am rebuilding. I contacted DVLA for a new log book ( have the original one from 1963) . They tell me that the registration has " fallen off the system" and I have to contact the owners club to fill in a V55/5 and V765 and send it t them. Is this correct?

Partly correct, but the Ford owners club has nothing to do with the DVLA and so I would expect have no input. You can send a message to one of the moderators and see if they know anything that would help.

Back in the 1980's the DVLC as it was had a fantastic idea and decided that any vehicle that hadn't been road taxed for 5 years of more must by their thoughts "No longer exist" and so they deleted/tore up any paperwork and considered all those vehicles scrap. It was only a short while later the vehicle museums discovered to there horror that all records of the cars had been deleted. Like you private individuals also have old cars that DVLA no longer have details of and so the fun begins to try and get them back on the system. Often a representative of the department for transport will want to inspect the vehicle to try and establish that it is what is claimed. Fill in the forms requested and I wish you good luck.

The Cortina Owners Club is recognised by the DVLA.  I think it's them who you were suggested to contact.
