What make of brake pads and discs??

Featured Replies

What make of brake pads and disc's do most people go for these days?

Eicher, Brembo, Pagid, Bosch or something else?

My car is a Ford Fiesta 2020 1.0

I always stick with Ford brake pads and discs.

You shouldn’t be needing discs on that age car, what’s happened to them.

I normally use Mintex, Ferrodo or EBC. I'd also trust Brembo and Pagid. I always say never buy cheap un-branded pads, as you can never trust the quality or performance, this is also more relevant to tyres.

In saying that, for a 2 year old car, I'm surprised you will needs new brakes, how many miles have you done? If the pads are low, then you can change them without changing discs, unless they are heavily grooved.

I've found in the past that this is false economy as new pads on old discs seem to soon cause rubbingand juddering under braking problems as the old discs wear into the new pads unevenly - and then you need to change both anyway. I now always change discs and pads together because brakes and tyres are two things on which you should never economise.

I've had a few problems with Eicher so avoid them now.  Also found the ECP 'Brembos' were squealy on a couple of different cars (sure they're not the same quality as OE Brembo's fitted to some cars).  Personally I'd sill recommend Pagid, but haven't bought brakes for a few years now so quality may have declined since.

My friend hates the Pagid discs and pads on his 2014 Fiesta, says they are noisy and don't brake as well as the Ford (Motorcraft) discs and pads. But those BOTH wore out in a year and over 30k miles (He's a driving instructor). That's when I fitted the Pagid's for him after seeing people recommend them.

I've got Brembo discs and Mintex pads on the front of my Mondeo and all Motorcraft on the rear. I changed the front pads after the friction material started to come away from the backing plate on the Brembo pads, the Mintex pads don't seem to bite as good as the Brembo's. Unfortunately, even though they're not that worn the discs (covered 53k miles so far) have started to pit/rust on the inner face now, probably caused by the lack of use since Covid (working form home). I'll be replacing with Brembo again.

I've only used Pagid discs and pads on any car I've had, since I was introduced to them in 2005.

Brakes are rather subjective, not everyone thinks the same about the different brands, as highlighted above.

running trw disks and trarrox strada pads on my zetec s 🙂

Pagid isn't a budget brand, it's actually OE on VW for lots of their models, and front pads on merc vito from new out factory are pagid.

Pagid, mintex and textar are all owned by TMD friction.

Mintex is their budget brand, pagid is their middle of the road brand suitable for most use, and textar is their flagship product used on the higher end cars.. But doesn't have as extensive range available as pagid.

Eicher is eurocarparts own brand made to an extreme budget to their own specs by tmd friction, may even be rebranded mintex in some cases at least have no evidence to support.

Best brands are, textar, brembo, trw (VW, Renault OE), Bosch (Mercedes OE), ATE (Ford, Vauxhall OE), jurid (BMW OE)

I couldn't be bothered to type all of the above myself, so lifted it from somewhere - however it matches what I have learned.
