Gf's Fiesta Failed Mot On Front Brake Imbalance Plz Help !!!

Featured Replies

Hello folks

My g/f 1.25 finesse (2004 54 plate 3 door) has failed its mot yesterday.

It Failed on Front brake imbalance (Dangerous)

The brakes do require a lot of pressure compared to my fiesta to get the car to stop.

So we apparantly need new discs and pads.

We have purchased the pads from halfords with my trade card and they came to £8-9

We new need discs.

Does anyone have a leamoco or H & M autostores trade card that lives local to me (Evesham) that can get some discount on them as my g/f has very little money.#

The Fluid is also like the nial of kalkutta it has black bits floating around in it (probably brake seals)

if your brake fluid is full of rubber bits its likely the master cylinder is at fault causing the imbalance...or it certainly wont help and could become dangourous if it fails altogether

Also, that brake fluid shares its reservoir with the hydraulic clutch system, so there is a chance that it could be bits from the master or slave cylinder seals, but the chances of it being the piston seal of one of the brake callipers is very high, since one of your callipers is not moving. They can just get corroded, and stop moving sideways on their slide-pins. I had to get my new Fiesta callipers worked on (1.25 hours labour), just a couple of months after delivery, to get the callipers to move evenly,-- the uneven wear on the discs was easily visible, and the pins were corroded inside their warerproof boots, and took the extra time to fettle. Brake fluid should be renewed every 2-3 years, as it pulls water vapour out of the air via the vent hole in the reservoir, even.

I would get a small well-recommended mechanic, to get the discs via trade outlets, and he can also get callipers if needed (I got one myself, and got a single mechanic workshop to fit it, so you CAN buy direct from Motor Factors, but you will get a better deal from the mechanic doing it all.).
