Ka Heater Problems... Please Help

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I'm looking for some help with my '06 Ka Luxury...

I've been haviing some problems with the heating/cooling system in that, even when the blower is off the car constantly chucks out hot air. I have had a thing replaced - goes under the bonnet and has two hoses that connect to the heater - to the tune of £94, which worked for about 2 days, before I had the same old problem again. I took it back to the garage and the mechanic had another look and suggested the air-con might need recharding, which I had done. The air-con was extremely low. This appeared to cure the problem... for 2 weeks. A couple of days ago I was driving along the motorway at dusk and noticed the dashlight went out. Got out and checked the lights which seemed to all be working, got back in the car and the dashlight was working again. After I finished work and got back in the car, I noticed the clock had stopped. Started the car and the clock started running again. Had a quick look at the owners manual and saw that the aircon and dashlights have the same fuse, so popped to the shop and bought and replaced the fuse. I haven't noticed a problem with the dashlights or clock but the aircon wouldn't work and the car again chucked out hot air even when the blower was off. Parked up for 4 hours or so, drove home and the aircon and blower is running cool, as it should. Quite often the blower runs cool until I stop, say, to go to the shop, then it just blasts hot again.

This problem is really driving me mad now - I work an hour away from home and by the time I get there I'm hot and bothered, not just that but after working a 12 hour nightshift, having to drive home with the air blasting hot is dangerous and having the windows open all the time is hell on my fuel consumption. I've taken it to 3 garages now an no one seems to have a clue what's wrong or how to fix it.

Any help, tips or ideas very gratefully received.

Thank you in advance.

to be honest i can see why they are having diffuiculty even with the blower off if its set to hot it will still blow small amounts of air to the side windows if its still blowing hot when its set to cold then it is a possible fault with the heater valve to be honest ide have taken it to a ford garage as they know more about these systems than others it could also be a possible aircon faul.

the garage youre going to doesnt have a clue hot air blowing and aircon need ing recharged have nothing in commobn they will keep throwing ideas as long as youll pay

Hi,

Had a similar problem with Fiesta. The 'thing' under the bonnet sounds like the temperature control valve. This is operated via a solenoid which opens/closes using the control on your dashboard. I replaced this valve and, like you, it seemed to cure the problem for a couple of days before re-surfacing. I used a meter to check the voltage at the solenoid and found that no matter where the temp setting was, there was a constant 12v registered. Obviously this was not correct so I bought a secondhand control panel from eBay and the problem was solved. A genuine Ford control is really expensive so, if you have not solved the problem, a secondhand one may be the answer.

Hope this has been some help.
