2013 Fiesta Zetec 1.0 has constant tappety noise from top of engine HELP !

Featured Replies

My  1.0 eco-boost  engine has a constant tappety noise from the top of the engine (towards the front ).

This is loud enough to hear inside the car with all windows closed. Does not appear to get louder when driving though can be heard when driving around town.

No dash warning lights showing, no loss of power, no uneven running, no starting issues, no smoke from the engine.

Any suggestions to resolve will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Has it had a recent oil change?  If not, that would be the first thing to try.

There's a high chance this is the start of oil restriction issues though, caused by wetbelt degradation blocking the oil pump strainer.  I know you say there are no warning lights or running issues yet, but keep an eye on that.

As Tom has said this is probably the start of oil starvation problems.

Since it is a 2013 model the wet timing belt is due replacement in less than a year, so now would be a very good time to get it changed and at the same time get the sump off and check the oil strainer.

Yes, I’d also be worried this is possibly oil starvation and it might have already done some damage.
