Oil Pressure Light After Timing Belt Change

Featured Replies

Hi I’m fairly new here but have been lurking on different posts that helped with my original problem.

I have a 2013 1.0 Ecoboost that’s got -92500 miles on the clock. A few weeks ago I noticed that on start (cold start especially) the oil pressure light remained on for a longer time than expected alongside a raspy kinda noise. Searching through posts it looked like the timing belt was knackered so it’s been in and had this done. They replaced timing belt, water pump, oil belt and cleaned out sump and oil strainer.

Got the car back now and there’s no longer a raspy noise however the light still remains on during cold start for a second or two and I’m wondering if I’m just being paranoid about it or if I should still be concerned.

Has anybody else experienced similar after timing belt replacement? Wondering if it could be that the pressure solenoid wasn’t cleaned out properly causing the delay, or if the oil pump is on the way out, or if it’s likely just fine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

The sad fact is "too little, too late"

By the time you had thought about the oil pressure light staying on longer than it should the damage to the engine was already being done. Replacing the wet timing belt after the problem was never really an option.

I note that they didn't replace the oil pump which might have been expected but did change the water pump which on a Ecoboost 1.0 is an odd thing to do since it is not driven by the wet timing belt.

The good news is that one of the members on the forum has very recently discovered that a brand new engine can be supplied and fitted for under £3000 by Pumaspeed.

I don't know if the Oil Filters on these cars have a non-return valve to prevent it draining or not. If they do and it is an aftermarket filter it may be faulty and if so could cause those symptoms.

If it was my car I would fit a Ford Filter to see if that cures the problem.
