2011 Fiesta 1.4 TDCI whirring engine noise when accelerating in idle

Featured Replies

Hello, I just noticed that my Fiesta has started to make a strange high pitched whirring noise when accelerating in idle. I just got home from a drive on the highway and no problems whatsoever. The car has done 195k kms, and went trought a full service at 155k kms, and trough a regular service last year. What could be making the strange noise? Thank you for your answers.

After running 195KM on his wheel the hamster probably has asthma 🤣

I would suspect it’s the timing belt and or pulleys / tensioner.  Or the alternator belt and/or pulleys / tensioner.  Relatively easy to check alternator belt and pulleys.  Take belt off, does it still make the noise?   Timing belt much harder to check.  But if there is a problem with the timing belt and or pulleys and it suddenly fails totally then the engine is wrecked.

Does the noise stop if you put your foot on the clutch then rev it, if it does then its the clutch release bearing.

The alternator belt is intact and looks in good condition, the noise stopped for a while and suddenly came back again. The noise does not stop when the clutch is released.

Could be bearings in the tensioners/pulleys like I said in my earlier post

I just left my fiesta at my mechanic's garage and he said it is either the bearings/pulleys of the timing belt, the timing belt itself ( although I'm skeptical about that because it was replaced two years ago at 150k km, or the water pump.

I recently found a video tha

t has the almost same noise, since my mechanic says the timing belt is in order, what else could it be.
