Air con/Radiator fan/Cigar lighter fault - Related?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone, Im an 'ex mechanic' (gave it up a good few years back now)

Been looking at a friends car who had the overheat light come on.

Went through a diagnostic and decided it was a faulty fan. Replaced the fan, and all good.

However...pretty sure while checking/testing fuses/relays for the cooling fan, I have done something which stopped the front 'Cigarette lighter' power socket from working.

Ive checked through the fuses, and seen the variety of locations and fuse box styles etc. Ive basically checked/replaced/added fuses to both boxes and so eliminated that issue. Ive also checked the relays.

The 'cigarette lighter' socket works when given a direct feed. Ive traced the wire colours from the socket to the back of the fuse and relay and all good. except there is no 'switched feed' to the relay to energise it. Hence it doesnt work.

Now..

At or around the same time (as no one is quite sure due to the fan packing up) the air con stopped working. (it was working fine before the fan stopped, although we cant say exactly how long before, but it was within weeks)

Well, all seems to work as it should, i.e. ac light comes on, fan starts up etc. However, the ac compressor clutch doesnt kick in. Ive bypassed the relay and it starts fine then, and blows cold air.

Similar to the power socket, it has a feed to the relay, but doesnt get the switch signal to fire the compressor clutch.

Ive been searching for wiring diagrams etc, but with the variety of fuse boxes, and also US models, its been a fruitless tast really.

The socket has a yellow/blue wire as the power supply connecting to a brown/red.  And the relay has small thin blue and black/blue wires for the relay switch (energiser) wires.

Any help or advise would be really appreciated, as ive kinda hit a bit of a wall now as it seems it might be a BCM/PCM fault?

sorry for long post, but thanks, Wayne

BTW, its a 60 plate, but has these fuse boxs
