Creaking Rear Suspenion

Featured Replies

Hi & thanks for having me on the forum.

The rear suspension of my daughters car has started "creaking." I  got a chance today to have a look at what's going on. The first thing I noticed was the rubbers on top of the springs basically have disintegrated to almost nothing so I have some on order and will fit them. What has got me mainly concerned however is that the bottom of the spring at the side is in contact with the metal of the swinging arm and it is this that I think is causing the creaking. Does anyone know why the springs are like this, both are the same?

I suspect the bottom part of spring has snapped off so it does not locate centrally on the shaped part in centre of the pan the spring sits in.  Happened to my 2015 fiesta a few months ago. Luckily the springs are cheap and easy to fit

Had the same thing on both my dads Transporter vans. I also see broken springs off vehicles near speed humps on my travels.

Thanks for the advice, turns out both springs are broken like this! Looks like that has allowed the springs to be off centre which caused them to rub and make the creaking noise. I've already got some new foam tops so I'll put them with some new springs for now and see how we go.
