dash LCD display (odometer) blank

Featured Replies

Hello, on turning the key on my mk6 fiesta the LCD display is blank. After a delay of 30 seconds the  screen will populate with the expected information.

Also the fuel guage will initially be pointing at the empty, and then after the 30 seconds, the hand will swing to the correct level.

In other electronics I have owned, this usually points to a thermally sensitive component  (needs to heat up with some current before it starts working normally)

, perhaps a bad solder joint somewhere that when heated up provides a good connection.

Usually I would check  by using a can of freeze, spraying components till the fault  is triggered, but am not sure in this case where to start (the GEM? relays?)

I also noticed that the  Ford Test mode  (holding trip counter whilst turning switch on)  can no longer be invoked. I cant read the DTC codes any longer. I already tried disconnecting the battery.

Any suggestions appreciated.

thanks

Rand
