Buzzer on steering column sound continuously

Featured Replies

Hi, The buzzer/ warning speaker on the steering column is sounding continuously. There are two connections to it, if I disconnect one, the sound stops.

Can you please please tell me what is connected to the steering column buzzer and if I can safely disconnect one of the connectors.

Thank you

Well to be honest I've not seen one like that before. I guess if it is buzzing then it's doing it's job to warn you about something.

Is your car automatic ? It could be the warning buzzer when you try to leave the vehicle and it's not in park.

My recommendation would be to download FORScan (it's free for laptop use) and see what DTC's are showing.

FORScan: https://forscan.org/download.html

Connecting lead. 'vLinker FS' : https://www.obd2shop.co.uk/wholesale/vgate-vlinker-fs-elm327-for-ford.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw08aYBhDlARIsAA_gb0e0JvjzwWaKfCMqPzJNbzC-06dy9bORAm19vXH6D2RXzGqnmbboMq0aAny6EALw_wcB

I randomly watched a video about this part last week.... See Here.... It's an air temp sensor

Thank you very much to unofix and to Frembrit.

Frembrit: I have watched the YouTube video and that is exactly the part that it making the buzzing noise. I will order a replacement next week and in the meantime disconnect the sensor. Thank you.

Unofix, Thanks very much for your response and for the links, the forscan will be especially helpful to investigate another issue that I have, your response is much appreciated.

Best wishes, Rich

The sensor noise is the fan being noisey. Might be worth blowing any debris/dust out fan and see if it stops the noise.

Excellent idea, thank you, I will try blowing the dust out tomorrow, and let you know if it makes a difference.

I don’t know to what degree the fan is a sealed unit. In the past I did a lot of work on computers and laptops, fixing them. Noisy fans were often fixed by a small amount of 3in1 oil on the spindle. Some had very small ball bearing races , some were just a spindle spinning in a hole, either way , a small amount of 3in1 often worked wonders

I am very happy to report that the noise has been reduced by 50% by cleaning out a dust buildup in the sensor. This is brilliant, thank you very much!

I hope that it is ok to ask a further question:

About a month ago the rear nearside passenger door lock stopped unlocking using the remote key on my S-Max. About 3 weeks ago the front passenger door stopped unlocking using the remote key. I have watched a YouTube video on how to remove the door panel and have asked a mechanic and they suggested lubricating all the linkages. My question is: Do you think that it will be necessary to replace the solenoids on both doors?

Thank you very much

Hi Isetta, Thank you for your suggestion. I looked into disassembling the sensor but even though it seems to be pushed together below the fan, I think that it might break the unit if I try to separate the two parts. I will try to float some oil into the bearings without disassembly and see if that makes a further difference, thank you
