A couple of months ago I described how I suspected my Ukrainian friend of undoing a top button of her dress to encourage excellent service from her village garage and from a Mercedes main dealer when she had a punctured tyre and there was no safety key for the wheel nuts.

Today she took her car back to the main dealer for a service and MoT, and then visited me 30 miles away in a courtesy car - a very swish 2021-plate Mercedes 220. My father had a taste for expensive cars (one that I have not inherited) that he had serviced at a main dealer also 30 miles away; his courtesy car was always some time-worn run-about, on one occasion with a dodgy gear box.

My friend insisted on showing me the car interior and I was immediately overwhelmed by the confusing multiplicity of switches. (Previously I have admitted to being technophobic.)

BTW she was hoping to take delivery of a new car (another Mercedes, I think) a few weeks ago, but now the supplier - not the local main dealer - has no idea at all of a delivery date.

    I suggest you post a photo of said friend so we can judge ourselves of how effective the unbuttoning of her dress would have been, or, maybe she just received randomly good service... 🤣
