Clutch and/or Flywheel question.

Featured Replies

I'll try keep this quick and simple my car is a 2007 Fiesta 1.4 TDCi. 148k on the clock fair condition for its age.

Every so often as i come off the clutch normally on a steep hill so its doing some work i hear a strange noise, only way i can explain it would be like a old barn door hinge type noise. lasts a second maybe 2 if i come off the clutch a little slow then its gone.

the car itself has no issue pulling off, climbing hills or picking up speed. i haven't noticed any clutch lag/drag but the gear changes have got a little notchy and now and then it grinds very slightly going into reverse.

Now for the question part, does anyone know what the noise actually is and without removing the gearbox is there a way to know for sure if its single or dual mass as there are options to buy a clutch listed for both.

Also if it is dual mass i know generally its a bad idea to use a conversion kit but the car is currently used to do local deliveries with an average trip range of 6 to 8 miles a time, longest trip would be around 15 miles and normally only cover around 40 to 60 miles a night all start stop. would it make a big difference or should i just get the extra together and put another dual mass on it. or what are the chances i could get away without changing the flywheel.

sorry about the length of that i tried to keep it short. thanks in advance to anyone that replies 😄

(coming soon my post about the timing belt haha stay tuned)

Probably just clutch whoop.  Doesn't necessarily mean the clutch is on the way out.

I've spent nearly a decade on Ford forums and never seen any way to work out exactly which 1.4 TDCI's had DMFs and which didn't.

The DMF is mainly used for idling and pulling away...so I'd say an SMF conversion would definitely be noticeable on a delivery car!
