Timing belt

Featured Replies

Hi Forum,

Can anybody recommend a good garage near Rotherham that are a cambelt specialist as I need my timing belt replacing on my 2013 fiesta petrol  ecoboost.

I'd not fancy using an independent to change the timing belt on your model unless they have all the Ford equipment needed. It's about a 10 hour job and that's with all the correct tools and knowing what you are doing.

https://www.evanshalshaw.com/dealers/ford-rotherham/

expect to pay about £1400

Also it is worth asking for the oil pump belt to be changed at the same time (not included with the timing belt kit) and ask for the sump oil strainer to be checked and cleaned.

For info I called the local Evans Halshaw near to me in Old Trafford, Manchester  and gave them my Sons registration ...they quoted £850 for the full kit - 2 belts with tensioner and water pipe all in. Said they would need the car for a full day ... Hope this helps 👍

That is an EXCELLENT price especially from a Ford dealer.

The more I look at what is included the more I suspect something is not right with what they have quoted you. The wet oil pump belt is not included with the wet timing belt kit, and what water pipe ? Are you talking about the Ecoboost 1.0 engine ?

Have you had the work done yet or just had the quote?

We have not had the work done yet I just wanted a ball park figure. They didn't mention the oil pump as such .Apologies I meant water pump not water pipe.

They quoted as part of the kit the 2 belts, the water pump, the "pulley/tensioner" is it  and sundries. Sorry I'm more an IT person than a mechanic. It was quote for the 1.0 ecoboost enginer -63 Plate.👍

Thanks for that info. It sound to me like they have quoted for the wrong engine. There would be no reason to replace the water pump on your engine when replacing the wet timing belt. It is common to replace the water pump on engines with a dry (external) timing belt.

I gave them the registration and told them it was the 1.0 ecoboost engine . I'll give them a call again tomorrow to confirm the price for clarification and get back to you all 👍

By the way this group has been such a great place for newbies like myself. A great wealth of information too. I'm grabbing my Son from Quickco the expansion pipe that had the metal section  insert as per the picture I have used from a previous post in here as his is starting to gain rust patches ( The replacement hose (engineering code C1B1 8K276 BC, part number 1804469 - £25 from a Ford dealer) is rubber from end-to-end hence not vulnerable to this issue.)

I checked with Stoneacre  in York my local dealer and was quoted  approx £1500  and then Evans Halshaw in Darlington the local dealer  and their quote  was also £ 1500

Is that including the extras as well such as the oil pump  belt and checking the sump oil strainer as per above ? What year is this quoted on as well please?

The quote from both firms was given in May of this year, and 1500 was for the complete job , , , I did not ask what's parts were involved

Just to confirm  I have again rang Evans Halshaw in Old Trafford and spoke to the same chap who brought up my quote and confirmed the price as £842  for the timing belt, auxiliary  belt ,water pump and all sundries as well . When I said I had spoken to various people on this group and how this couldn't be right as its so cheap he stated this quote was given based on the registration of the vehicle (1.0 Ecoboost Fiesta ) by his service manager who has worked there for 35 years .😳

Just feeding back all...

Does that include VAT?  Adding VAT would take it just over a grand which seems more reasonable.

No mention of vat I'm afraid

Probably best not to ring him up again and ask.

Even if it doesn't include VAT, still a good price.  Would be prepared for some extra costs somewhere after that quote though.

So does the OP have any thoughts on this ?

Has Sean had any quotes for his car ?

I was just wondering if the 842 was just parts and not labour

Something just doesn't seem right.  Even back street independents doing only the basic minimum of the wet timing belt change are charging £899.

There is also the fact they are including the water pump and auxiliary belt plus all sundries, but no specific mention of the wet belt for the oil pump, or indeed checking the oil strainer which adds at least another hour (probably two) to the job.

I would get it done if they are quoting £850. Bargain . That's not even enough to cover the labour cost without vat.

Just to put another curve ball on the situation and i know it sounds crazy, but i have heard of people going for new engines instead as the naked engine is apparently only a £1000 and less than a days work, i suppose if you can get the whole thing replaced for a few £100 more then everything is new(only what ive heard not priced myself)

I'm sure that many people here would be very interested in a brand new Ecoboost engine for only £1000 and getting it all done in just one day. Please post the details to help those looking to replace their wet timing belt which now costs around £1500 and takes just under 10 hours.

Up to now the very best price for a brand new replacement engine has been PumaSpeed.

Like i said its only what other traders have told me, never priced myself

Just coming back on this topic . I have managed to  source 2 specialist Places that deal with /are Ecoboost engine specialists - Both having really great reviews re the timing belt work on the Ford Ecoboost engines!

Both are on social media and they are called `North West Engines` and `EcoPro` .

Eco have had confirmed quote from them at £760 for The full cam belt replacement kit , oil pump belt, oil pump clean, associated seals and bolts, oil and filter change - All in including vat.

North West Engines quoted £750 Cash or £800 by Card for the same work.

All Ford OE  parts/kit used from both

Both said they would need the car for 2 days
