gear stick question!

Featured Replies

OK so the car in question this involves is my 2007 fiesta but i guess the answer could apply to any car with a manual gear stick without the lift leaver for reverse.

First i want to say i'm not trying to get a "faster" gear change i'm not trying to get a "quick shift" it is 100% for comfort and placement.

So the Question, Can i cut down the gear stick itself and place the gear knob lower down or would that in some way mess with the whole linkage. sorry if its a noobie question but if i dont ask i wont know and it's something im interested in doing.

for anyone wondering why i would want too i use the car for deliveries and have a tray that would be a lot easier to work with should the gear knob be lower and i find myself changing gears holding the slick below the knob most the time anyway.

as always thanks in advance for your replies 🙂

(the tray and a few other little bits will be clear in another post i will be starting soon about "mods"/"changes" i have made and plan to make on the fiesta PURELY for delivering, so ease of use and economy in mind not performance and looks)

I'd not cut more than 6" off or you might find it hard to screw the knob back on 🤣

Yes you can shorten the gearstick a little which will just mean you have to use a little more effort to change gears.

a little more effort is fine and I'm only looking to lower it by 2" maybe 3" at a push 😄
