been told my Tappets need reseting and to check the oil level first and see if a top up quiets it ,oil level is fine on the stick so is a reset easy?

Sorry cant see what engine or car that is, is it a focus zetec engine?

Not many vehicles have adjustable tappets these days and doesnt sound like thst anyway.

My first job would be to see if it changes when you put you foot on the clutch (although doesn't sound like a clutch issue). But you need to get that auxiliary belt off to rule out water pump, alternator and tensioner.

It may be a stretch belt or a standard belt, the focus could have had either depending on year and engine size.

If the noise is still there after and your oil interval etc is good then you need to get a garage to look at it im afraid.

Sounds like a dry bearing on the video, but videos can alter the sound considerably.

Been to a mechanic today who said it could be the cambelt (was changed only 23k ago) but i have low oil (not mega) and the water wasn't high enough up.On travailing back the half a tank i had has gone and it does seem i have a leak again after only changing it last year for the same problem.

But would this really make that sound? Don't wanna spunk 100's on it when its for sale or p/x

You've lost me a bit there.  I don't think it'll be the cambelt itself.  It could be one of the tensioners/pulleys or the waterpump.  Waterpump sounds likely if you've also got a water leak.  But it's not clear if the noise and the leak are connected?

If you're just P/Xing it I'd leave it to the garage to decide what they want to do.  I can't imagine there's much trade-in value in a 2005 model anyway.  Can understand not wanting to sell it privately in this state though.

well the water tank has been changed but never the pump under my ownership

Driving to work today my car oil light started to flash up a few times, car was a bit laggy and when I opened the bonnet the oil cap was smoking slightly.

Garage by work can't do nothing till Oct and i donno if it's wise to try and drive it home (14 miles )

Same person just can't access other account

I don't think it's wise to drive it home.  Have you got breakdown recovery?

Nope seems I might have to tow it home without the engine running

I'm thinking it could be pistol rings or the head gasket

Sounds to me like it’s going to be a money pit unfortunately.

Sounds like it's not even worth investigating with so many issues on a 17 year old car.

Oil light flashing is a bad sign.  Laggy on a non-turbo could mean lack of compression as well.  Sounds like either the oil pump is failing or blocked.  Or the oil has been thinned by coolant or petrol.  Either way, engine bearings have probably worn from lack of lubrication by now, effectively meaning it'll need a major overhaul, with sump off, oil pump checked/replaced and big end bearings checked/replaced...and that's hoping dry piston rings haven't wrecked the bores.

If you can do some investigation yourself to save on garage costs that might help us narrow down the problem a bit more.
