Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost oil type question.

Featured Replies

I am having a new/refurbished engine supplied by ford but not fit by ford. I told them to make sure to use the right oil (5w-20) but I don't know if they will use the ford castrol version which I thought about after. Do you think I should change the oil myself straight away or leave it a few months and do it. I am only asking cause I am paranoid about those pesky wet belts. I dont rly know how fast they can degrade if cheap oil is used.

You will be fine using another brand of the same grade, most of it comes from the same factory just re-labled, i would ask them what brand grade of oil they used then just go to the manufacturers website, they all have a oil grade look up from registration,  if it matches then leave it, also if you change the oil and the engine goes wrong theres no way they will warranty it.

Ok thanks, was just asking cause I heard the ford brand one has additives to protect the belt.

5w-20 is just viscosity of the oil.

You need to be sure , that WSS-M2C948-B

can be found from oil can.

its a wonder how these cars dont survive, I think many regular people just take their car in for a service and dont question weather wss-m2c948-b was used lol

would using the same grade be alright until I can get some

only use a small amount (less than 1 litre) to top up. Do not carry out a full oil change using the wrong spec oil.

On-line orders from Arnold Clark typically take only 3 days.

Its a new engine so I wont be topping up haha. Im just thinking that the garage fitting it may not use the exact oil so I was thinking of changing it myself afterwards.

Yes of course, i didnt mean just fill it with any old cooking oil, what i meant was ask them what the brand was then you can use the oil brand site look up with your registration to check its the correct oil they have used.

The point is if they have used the correct oil why waste your time changing it again.

But hey its your time and your engine.

Either way hopefully its the last time you will have any issues🤘

Thanks, but my point really was how sensitive are the engines to the wrong oil. So if the right grade but wrong spec was used, would it do fine just to drive back to the house or whatever.

Because I have no way of knowing what oil they have put in. They could of put the right oil in but they may not. Even if I ask they could just lie.

Fair enough 👌

I've got my 2014 ecoboost booked in for Wednesday service and

MOT just rang them,  asked if they would put in WSS-M2c948-B

spec in car, said using 5w-20 but would have to check the specification

hopefully will use what asked for !! said would pay extra if had to buy in ! I'm using a indie garage.

Brand is irrelevant, as long as it meets OR exceeds the Ford specs it will be fine.

I used this stuff

£26 for 5 ltrs if you buy 2 - Ebay, and yes it meets the Ford spec WSS-M2C948-B

I've used the WV version on my Skoda VRS and my Daughters Seat FR for the last few years, good oil.

That's interesting, I've never heard of them but probably others here on the forum have. Personally I would be a little hesitant to use it in an Ecoboost but provided it does what it says on the tin, then it should be fine.

I see that you can actually buy it for as little as £17.99

I checked the oil he used and it was ford specific 5w-20 so thats fine, got the car and the engine sounds so much quiter now lol. Only problem is stop start isnt really working but that was the same when I bought the car. I know you can do the battery monitoring reset thing but idk if I should do that since its a used car and I dont know how charged the battery is so the car might have stopped doing it intentionally.
