MK7 Fiesta Auto Gearbox 'slipping' (not slipping gear)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Gearbox seems generally fine, apart from:

1) When in fourth gear, and sometimes third (depending on how it's being driven), at about 50mph, application of the accelerator (not kickdown) sometimes results in a nearly instant rise in revs, but it has not changed down. The revs drop as the speed increases.

2) Occasionally, again at about 50mph (ish) when the box changes down because of accelerator application, including kickdown, there is a little pause and what I would describe as a slightly violent gear change.

Any thoughts on this..? fluid change? take it to specialist? Stop worrying and carry on driving?

Hi, First of all, make sure your battery is in good condition.

Powershifts do not like poor battery performance.

Get Forscan and a decent ELM connector and reset the transmission adaptive learning and clutch

But it sounds like the clutch pack is going

Thanks for your answer,

I am looking at Forscan now, (been saying this since I bought it), thanks.

But, is a 2012 1.4 Automatic a powershift? My assumption was torque converter and I couldn't find any information online to identify the transmission type.

Just a note to anyone that reads this thread for any similar issues:

Indeed, it turns out that the MK6 Fiesta with 1.4 and 1.5 Duratec engines do not have a Powershift transmission, but instead have the 4F27E torque converter transmission which I'm informed is very reliable.

It seems that what appears to be a varying in revs after heavier acceleration particularly in third gear, may be because it's a lock-up torque converter, and the lock-up clutch inside the box, will disengage as there is a differential speed between the input side and the output side. In other words, the box is changing between being a solid link between engine and wheels and a torque converter, depending on how it's being driven.

All the best.
