Any pointers on the glow plug relay for a 2008 1.4 TDCI MK6.5?

Featured Replies

Basically, my car has thrown a P0380 code three times within the last two days. For the sake of like £30, I'm just gonna dive in on a relay seeing as it's a common cause for the code.

The problem is that every resource I come across is completely useless for locating the relay. Even looking at Ford's online manual for the car, it's about as useful as a heater in summer.

The closest I've got is that someone mentioned it's the brown relay in the relay box. It's just the one source. But Ford also has a listing on Ebay, for a brown relay that looks the same which specifically mentions glow plug relay. Pretty sure the relay is in R3 (top left as if looking at it from the battery) which sources seem to describe as "additional heater" which I suppose is what glow plugs are? But seems a bit too vague to jump on that

The only problem is that if I don't know if it is specifically the relay I'm looking at in my car, I can't truly compare the two. To make matters worse, I've looked around for parts and a lot of sites are throwing relays with an entirely different layout at me... Which only adds to the confusion.

I mean, the listing from Ford seems like a pretty solid confirmation, but I'd rather be sure than end up with a spare relay.

But yeah, any ideas?

I'd make sure the relay is actually defective first, if the relay is the same as r2, try swapping them and seeing if the problem persists, if it does then it's not the really, if it doesn't then replace the bad relay, I believe the relay is situated in the relay box in the engine bay
