u.s.b connection.....2011 titanium with sony unit.

Featured Replies

I have tried to play songs from my new u.s.b drive, its a 64gb SanDisk but just comes up device not supported but after that is says Active.

it's got all the Bluetooth working fine, does my year car support u.s.b drive to play mp3 music.

thanks.

Have you tried other USB sticks and what is the stick formatted to: FAT32 / exFAT?

  • Author

It's formatted to exFAT,aint tried another stick as these a new just arrived from Amazon.

I would expect the capacity size of 64gb is just too large for the cars infotainment system to handle. It was my understanding that 32gb was the maximum supported size for a 2011 system

8gb probably maximum capacity 🤔

i will get an 8gb  one see if that works.

thanks

In my Mk 7 and 7.5 Fiesta's you needed USB sticks formatted to FAT 32, I've used 2GB, 8GB and 16GB SanDisk sticks with no issues.

Hi all,got a 8gb the other day and tried Fat32 but still dont work.

Dont know if im doing this right, put a few albums on and when i put it in car and hit the Aux button on radio it says ''Line active'' but nothing from the u.s.b.stick.

If i turn the Bluetooth on (on my phone)it picks the play list off my phone (do i need Bluetooth turned on (on my phone) as i want it to pick up the stick not phone,at the worst is there something i can buy and slot into my cigi lighter slot so i can put the u.s.b in that.

Thanks

Mine is a 2012 with Sony headunit and I have used up to 23 gig with no problems

"Line Active" is not for the USB port, that is for the small Aux Jack connector. It's a very long time since I played with one of these units but I think if you repeatedly press the Aux button it will cycle through the options and will display "USB"

I will go and try that as i have some 64gb which i know is too big but will try my 8gb.

Is Fat32 the right file or is there others that work.

Thanks.

I have just tried it and when i press the Aux button all i get is line active and bt which is Bluetooth( like 5 half circles for signal strength)

Im using the 8gb and the u.s.b by the side of the power socket.

Please post a photo of the Sony radio fitted to your car.

Have you tried using the USB socket to charge a phone just to test that the socket is live?

  • Author

yes, tried it to charge my phone.

Don't know if this might help:

"Since your USB port allows you to charge your device
(if supported by your device), SYNC will not automatically change media
modes when something is initially plugged into the USB port"

------------------------------------------

Selecting different media sources

The Media player Menu allows you to select and play music from
different media sources (SYNC USB, Bluetooth Audio or SYNC LINE IN -
Auxiliary Input jack). Once accessed, you can then play music, shuffle,
access your playlists, etc. To access this menu:
Note: To scroll,
/
.
1. Press AUX repeatedly until SYNC appears.
2. Press MENU. When Media Player Menu appears, press OK.
3. Scroll until Select Source is selected and press OK.
4. Scroll to select from:
• SYNC USB
• Bluetooth Audio Note: This is a device dependent feature.
• SYNC Line In
• Return

Accessing and using your USB port

You can use the USB port to plug in and access media devices as well as
charge devices (if supported by your device). For a list of compatible
media players, refer to www.SyncMyRide.com.
Note: Since your USB port allows you to charge your device (if
supported by your device), SYNC will not automatically change media
modes when something is initially plugged into the USB port. To access
the USB port through your SYNC system:
Note: To scroll, press
1. Ensure that the desired device is plugged into the USB port and is
turned ON.
2. Press AUX repeatedly until SYNC appears.
3. Press MENU. When Media Player Menu is selected, press OK.
4. Scroll Select source is selected and press OK.
5. Scroll until SYNC USB is selected and press OK.
If the connected device and media content is supported, SYNC will
begin indexing available media files. If there are no readable media files
for SYNC to play, the display will indicate that no media is available. If
there are readable media files, Indexing may appear in the radio display.
If Autoplay is ON, SYNC gives you the ability to access media files
randomly as they are indexed. If Autoplay is OFF, indexed media is not
available until the indexing process is complete. The display will indicate
when indexing is complete and SYNC will take you to the Play Menu.
