honestly im not beiong rude but it would be far cheaper and easier buying an st than trying to convert a 1.4 to an st other than engine gearbox loom ecu clocks suspension alloys brakes exhaust system air intake lights etc etc even just ghetting the engine running is far more complicated based on st prices even 2nd hand youll spend double what it would cost you to buy one

Although the engine fitted to the Focus ST170 has Duratec emblazoned on the cam cover, it isn't one at all. Fords marketing department presumably decreed that their top-of-the-line performance variant couldn't have an engine of older design than the cooker models, and so they dressed up a Zetec to look like the engine that replaced it. The Duratec is an all alloy engine with chain-driven cams and the induction and exhaust on opposite sides of the head. The ST170 engine is basically a trick Zetec with a stronger bottom end and variable inlet cam timing. Some specialists say that the engine cannot be transplanted because the cam timing is controlled by the ECU in the Focus. it can be done however but is extremely difficult to set up and needs a tuning company and ford expert to set it up correctly you need the full engine with loom and ecu coil pack etc etc you need the upgraded front brakes and disks so you also need the alloys or bigger alloys you need the rear end with disks the 6 speed box is expensive and very hard to find easily from fast ford mag who showed a car with conversion it cost almost 9 grand to be done right.

a far easier soloution is to fit a 1.8 engine which is easier and then swap the cams to take it up 130bhp add an exhaust and decent air intake a remap bigger injectors and throttle body 170bhp
