Wireless Charging

Featured Replies

Hi folks

collected my 2019 Ford Focus Vignale today, I have a question… is it correct that the vehicle has a wireless charging pad? I use an I phone that has wireless charging capabilities, just when I place it in the centre console it does not appear to charge.

It is an option

If the mat doesn’t have an outline of a phone with lightning bolt or if you lift the mat and there is no black rectangle underneath then you don’t have it.

If you don’t have it, take it from someone with the same car who has it as an option…it’s not great. Depending on the phone you have and the case, you’ll get mixed results. My old Oneplus charged well but there’s no airflow there so got very hot, my new iPhone, keeps saying Charging Terminated probably due to the camera bumps.

Personally I’d do your phone a favour and plug it in instead to give its battery an easier time.

Mine works OK on S20FE so like you say could be phone specific?

The wireless charger is factory fitted to my 23 plate Focus. As my Nokia doesn't have wireless charging and the charging pad just heats up my phone, how do I turn it off?

Put your phone somewhere else

I was hoping for some useful ideas/comments.

That wasn't a stupid comment.  Wireless charging can't be turned off.

You could pull fuse F10 to stop it.  But the HUD also uses the same fuse, so not viable if you use that.

Thanks Tom for the useful response. I will either remove the fuse or, as has been usefully mentioned in another US forum, place a piece of mouse mat over the charger before placing my phone on it. The wireless charger being the only place to put my plugged in phone in my car.

An update in case it helps someone else:

I bought a foam rubber mouse mat 6mm thick from eBay for £2.99 and cut two pieces and placed them under the rubber mat which covers the wireless charging pad and the area to the rear of the usb sockets. No more issues with my phone heating up when placed on the left side, the wireless charger side.
