DAB aerial connector query...

Featured Replies

I am having a bit of brain freeze! I have a DAB aerial with a screw in connector, however, the DAB radio has a push in aerial connector. I just can't get my head round SMA and SMB! Exactly what kind of aerial adapter do I need?

SMA is a small connector which is threaded

SMB looks almost the same but is a push fit

I'm not sure if that helps 🤔

Perfect, thank you, will now order - I'm blaming old age myself LOL

Yes that is a Male SMA to Female SMB. These days it's possible that you can get a transgender that does both 🤣

Hermaphrodite connectors would be much more useful.

It's incredible that pretty much worldwide, you can pull into any garage and inflate your tires with a 'standard' schrader valve, but there are so many aerial connectors! Wonder how EVs will fair in standard connectivity for charging...

I did see that device chargers will all have to be standard USB-C by 2024 now - that includes Apple devices!

I'd hope EV chargers will eventually become standardised as well.  Trouble is, it'll take some time to work out which type are the most efficient and robust so not ideal to standardise too soon.

Stephen favors the Betamax plug, but I'm not so sure 🤣

Well, that was a waste of £4 LOL The 'adapter' I bought was totally wrong. Still, in the mean time I worked out that the aerial I had was only 3m of cable which wasn't long enough for the run I wanted, so bought another aerial from Halfords with 5m, which had the correct connection for my DAB converter!

You live and learn 👍

I guess you wanted was the reverse of what you bought.

In case anyone finds this thread in the future via google, this is the correct adapter, you need an "SMB (male) to SMA (female)" LOL
