Fiesta MK7 1.25 82ps Oil Consumption

Featured Replies

Hello, as the title says I noticed small oil consumption. After around 5000km I noticed that the level on dipstick decreased for about 1/4 on min/max scale (now it sits at about 3/4 above min notch), also I noticed a little amount of oil in the airbox where crankcase breather goes I suppose breather sponge was never changed as it crumbled into pieces when I took it out and will it be ok to replace it with random piece of sponge of similar material that I have lying around.

Also its mix of longer trips and city trips. Oil was changed on 139000 now its around 144500km and one more thing oil was changed in december 2020 it was not driven a lot about 1500km for 1.5 years so could it be that oil age is causing this or its normal.

Thanks in advance.

The genuine small sponge filter in the airbox seems to be available for a few pounds/euros (nearly the same thing nowadays.😀)

I would expect a 12 year old engine with 144,500km to consume a little oil.

Are you really saying the oil has not been changed in over 2.5 years?

Normal interval would be every 12 months but at such extremely low current use you should  be changing even more frequently than that.

Hi you get a genuine one from Ford on ebay for about 6 quid. (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393396504659?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=7k6w-3wmqzu&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=3Q00xU3YTxa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY)

This is the one I bought when my one started to fall apart. All I'll say is to contact the seller and/or ford to double check that its correct for your vehicle.

Yeah, car was bought recently. Actually on previous car oil change was done 2-3 times per year, I approximately travel around 20 to 30 000km some years even more.

I am just curious is it normal to have a little bit of oil puddle beneath said sponge.

My guess is that if the previous owner neglected the oil changes for as long as you mention, then that sponge filter (which is meant to catch any oil vapour from the breather) has been missing for a long time also.

A thread on a similar topic from some years back shows how "oily" the sponge filter can get:
