Infotainment screen failing after heavy rain

Featured Replies

My Fiesta (Zetec S 2014) seems to be having issues with the screen after heavy rain. A month ago I was on the move and about half an hour after the downpour the screen starts flickering and being taken over by dancing colours, but another half hour later recovered and was absolutely fine. The radio and satnav audio worked perfectly the entire time, so definitely just the display affected.

Unfortunately in a torrential downpour over the last few days the screen has seemingly completely packed in, with only a grey bar suggesting life. Anyone else had this issue? I'm assuming it must be water in a connection somewhere, but I can't find anything online and haven't a clue where to start.

That sounds quite an expensive fault.

I would guess that you have a leaky windscreen and water is finding it's way to the APIM unit. Or you might be lucky and it's just a faulty display, but it doesn't seem likely.

🥴 Putting a lot of energy into not thinking about the cost of repairing it! The APIM is an interesting thought: I've had a look online, but most complaints are that the screen and the radio/bluetooth/phone/satnav/USB have seized at the same time. As everything is completely fine, bar the display not working, I'm not entirely sure it can be the APIM (and looking at the cost of replacing it, it better not be). The car hasn't had any damp problems with condensation etc and doesn't seem to have any discernable moisture around the underside of the glove box (where I am understanding the APIM to be located?) either, which I would've thought would've given away a leaky windscreen? I'll definitely bear it in mind for the next downpour and have a nose again if (when, fingers crossed) the screen recovers, and hope the problem is just a nice, easy electrical tape job somewhere!
