Fiesta mk7 wishbone replacement.

Featured Replies

Only thing on our MOT was the suspension arm ball joint front lower, and I could tell something was amiss from the occasional clunks.

I could have just sourced a new ball joint from just 15+ GBP, but having gone down similar paths before, I decided to replace the complete wishbone, which obviously also has new bushes at the other two connecting points on the chassis.

These are on sale from 35+ GBP, but of dubious quality, longevity and origin.

I've previously chosen LEMFÖRDER susp-parts (subsidiary of ZF) for other cars, as they have a good rep, and have proved to be reliable IME, and are so if you are looking for mk7 wishbones, the cheapest (Oct 2022) I found them was approx. 55 GBP delivered from Amazon.

Your mileage may vary.

Seriously?

Well partially because it would mean I'd have to do all four corners, which would mean four times the cost and (at least) four times longer that I can't use the car....

and the planet is in enough of a mess without changing hardware that doesn't need changing

but mostly because the Fiesta family-car handling is mainly compromised by the chassis and suspension components, and changing just the bushes would only make it less compliant, and worse handling.

But your mileage may vary.

You don’t need to do all four corners but doing both front together is a good idea if you think the bushes may need replacing chances the other side is in the same condition.

Mr Kill suggested changing to polybushes. You really don't want to be changing just one corner.

Correct, that is what I suggested.

I recently changed both my front suspension arms they came with the balljoints and bushes fitted made the job much quicker. I did both sides as you will need to get the car tracking adjusted after anyway so better to change them in pairs.

I got these https://www.autodoc.co.uk/delphi/1771620

Just took my car to Quickfit after doing the job and got them to sort the tracking out it did take them two attempts but it now drives much better.

Where are the wishbones on the back end of a MK7?  I must have missed them. 😕

....well... nearly.

You suggested changing two corners.

I have no idea why this has changed to the merits of polybushing your car, when it was a simple recommendation on wishbones, but hey, knock yourselves out.

Polybushing just the front of a car will unbalance it, or are you suggesting Ford spent all that money designing the handling and they got it wrong?

No need for polybush or whatever make, what I am saying is if you are going to change the bushes on one side then it’s always good to change the opposite side at the same time. I would just use good quality bushes or replacement wishbones.

Can't argue with that 🙂
