Sudden engine cut out

Featured Replies

Hi guys,  my 3 day old Fiesta 1.0 mPHEV eco boost suddenly died  going round a traffic island, and again 5 minutes further down the road. Had to put hazards on, handbrake on before car would restart. Did not notice any warning lights, but it was raining VERY heavily.  Dealer unable to look at car for a ***** week.  Anyone had similar happen ?

Not experienced anything similar in my MHEv Fiesta, but might be worth turning off Start/Stop each time you start the car as it may ensure the issue doesn't re-occur.

I suspect that the Stop/Start is kicking in, on a MHEv it can operate at 25-30MPH ( from memory ) but after the initial start any stop/start activity is handled by the MHEv battery, and that takes a few days to a week of driving to have enough charge to work as expected after taking delivery of a new vehicle.

Thanks Andy, that`s useful info, and sounds pretty plausible, pity no mention of this at handover.

Look for 'rolling stop' in the dash settings and turn that down or off if possible.

(Also, it's an MHEV - the P in PHEV stands for 'plug-in' which isn't how it works on the Fiesta. )

There are three settings in one of the menu's...IIRC low, medium and high...which determine the speed below which the rolling auto stop/start activates (yes, they don't actually give the speed itself, may be in the user manual...only available on-line of course 🙄). I thought the rolling auto stop-start only activated while the brake pedal was pressed, does on my car...were you going round the roundabout with your foot on the brake?

The stop-start light on the dash should come on when activated.

Alternatively de-activate the stop-start using the button by the handbrake and see it if sorts your problem out 👍
